Helena Yuen

Dr. Helena S. Y. Yuen, JP, is a solicitor, an accredited general and family mediator, and a mediation trainer with more than four decades of professional experience in law, conflict resolution, and family healing. She holds an LL.B. from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong, where her research focused on the mediation process. She also earned a Master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology in the United States and received advanced training in family therapy, couple counseling, and solution‑focused brief therapy internationally.

Dr. Yuen has handled hundreds of mediations across family, probate, workplace, and commercial disputes and has served as an accredited mediator, assessor, and supervisor with major professional bodies in Hong Kong. She has served as a panel mediator for the Family Court, Legal Aid Department, Lands Tribunal, and Judiciary mediation schemes, contributing significantly to the development of mediation practice in the region.

A pioneer in mediation training since 1997, Dr. Yuen has developed and delivered accredited mediation programs for universities, professional institutions, government agencies, and community groups. She has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong, teaching ‘Buddhist Mediation’ and has spoken at international conferences and published extensively on family mediation, cross-border family issues, and integrative conflict resolution.

Dr. Yuen is the Founder and Director of the Conflict Resolution Centre in Hong Kong, established to promote harmony by integrating legal insight, therapeutic understanding, and contemplative wisdom. Her work bridges Western mediation practice with Eastern philosophical traditions, particularly Buddhist principles of compassion, mindfulness, and non‑attachment, offering pathways to heal relationships and restore inner peace.

Appointed Justice of the Peace in recognition of her public service, Dr. Yuen has served on numerous governmental and professional committees focused on mental health, policing oversight, rehabilitation, and alternative dispute resolution. Through teaching, writing, and community engagement, she continues to advance mediation as a transformative practice for individuals, families, and society.
